June:Earlier this month we had the pleasure of meeting John Dixon of Clitheroe, Lancashire.
It was actually Johns son, Iain, who commissioned us to photograph Johns beautifully crafted clock cabinets.
A wheelwright by trade, John has spent much of his working life as a welder and fabricator but has always maintained a wide interest in craftsmanship of local people.
John's interest in clocks stems from a extremely rare longcase clock, by John Grundy of Whalley, which has been handed down the family from generation to generation. The ongoing restoration of this and other clocks led John to begin making his own cases and culminated in a joint collaboration with engineer Chris Wilkinson in the production of two identical longcase clocks designed and built entirely in Clitheroe.
We photographed just a small selection of John's work. These objects are lovingly produced for himself, his family and friends. A nice guy and a real old-style craftsman.
